This class is intended to follow Pre-Algebra. Students entering this class should be fluent in multiplication tables and have knowledge of the 4 operations with fractions and negative numbers, including solving equations with an unknown. My philosophy is to utilize each class period to the fullest by actively engaging the student in note-taking and practicing problems during class so that he/she has a tangible resource to use at home throughout the week as the lessons are completed. All students are encouraged to ask questions until they have mastered each concept.
- Teaching Textbooks Algebra I with CDs (supplemented with worksheets to solidify the most challenging concepts)
- 3-ring binder (any size)
- Notebook paper
- Students are encouraged to have either a TI30X scientific calculator (available at WalMart or Office Max) or a TI-84 plus graphing calculator (CE or regular version). However, any scientific calculator will work for this class as long as the student is familiar with its use. Calculator usage will be reserved for specific advanced concepts, such as solving percents and operations using scientific notation.
