Semester 1: European Exploration
This class will provide a fun, hands on approach to learning about the events and people of the Early European Exploration. Students will participate in activities and biographical reports of early explorers of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Lessons will be taught through children’s literature and simulation games. Students will end the unit by writing scripts, designing props, dressing in period clothes, and preforming short skits about what was learned in class.
Semester 2: Colonial Times Through the Revolutionary War
This unit will focus on the settlement of the 13 colonies. Students will be able to label the 13 colonies, investigate life in Early America, take part in a democratic process, and explain the causes of the Revolutionary War. Class activities will include thinking maps, brochure making, journal writing, and dioramas.
